Ten Etiquette Commandments to follow to ensure safety and an overall good experience:
1. As part of the JMM Girls CC Team, you ALWAYS are representing your school. In the community, be respectful and polite - say hello, and smile.
2. Always be alert and aware of your surroundings and try to run next to someone:
- if you are being followed, keep running
- don't engage in conversation with follower, look just enough to get a description, and if in a vehicle, remember the license plate number
- run to where there are more people and alert a coach
- keeps the sport more fun, and encourages team building
- don't run too close or clip heels - give space
- don't push the pace on easy days
3. Clean up after yourself, especially in the practice area, training room, and locker room
4. Follow all the laws when running off campus
- running down the correct side of the street - facing traffic
- crossing roads at cross walks
5. Don't take up the whole road
- sidewalk etiquette, which means two across on sidewalks or trails, and single file when approaching oncoming traffic, bikers, walkers, or runners
6. Call out hazards as you see them
- "Car back"
- "Biker on the left"
- "Pile of dog $*I^
7. When coming up behind someone - alert those you are approaching
- "Hi" or "Hello"
- "On your left"
8. Don't cut through private property
- Flowerbeds, gardens - especially those properties on a corner lot
9. Don't snap, fling, or grab flags, branches, poles as this can be dangerous and causes a chain reaction
10. Be courteous when spitting/tooting/boogers
- sometimes as a runner you may do some or all of the above, just try to do it away from people
